Portland Day 1

by Kate on March 27, 2011

We descended on California’s Canada yesterday afternoon and immediately headed to Blue Plate for some home-style comfort food. One plate of bacon macaroni, one grilled cheese + tomato soup and one meatloaf sandwich later we were a happy crew. Eating at Blue Plate is like having a foot massage while sitting next to a fire with a fuzzy kitten asleep on your lap. And also you’re wearing a Snuggi.

Mr. PeepThread and Stella relaxed at the hotel room while I hoofed it down to Crafty Wonderland, located downtown across from the Portland Central Library. Imagine all your favorites from Etsy arranged in one room for your browsing pleasure. You can pick them up, feel their texture and appreciate the hand-made details. Plus there is no shipping cost OR sales tax (thanks Oregon!).

I may or may not have purchased a print of Ryan Berkley’s Mr. Squirrel illustration.

“Tragically this squirrel has a vicious peanut allergy. Luckily he lives in an area that has an abundance of berries.”

Really cute and I’d be jealous if I hadn’t just eaten homemade enchiladas suizas with guac, fresh pineapple, green salad and warm chocolate brownies with ice cream. It’s almost my birthday.

You better have bought that squirrel. And I hope you figured out a way for him to be framed and on your wall by the time you get home. I’m just sayin’ – you’d really be my hero if that happened.
