A plate of buttons. Old ones and new ones. Red ones and blue ones.

Last month I polled you guys to see what I should do with the iPad money. I got some online response and some offline response, the majority in favor of supporting Dress a Girl Around the World. However, I think we can dress some little girls AND start a micro loan through KIVA. Basically I didn’t realize that I had been given an iPad 2. Nice huh? Here is my first dress for a very special young lady across the ocean. May she wear it with comfort and pride while studying macroeconomics and bio sciences. Why yes, it is for a 3 year old. But I have a feeling she’s pretty smart

Today I made myself a new accessory to increase my fly-ness. I used part of a gorgeous Etsuko linen quarter that I’ve been saving. I think aubergine and orange are perfect colors for a fall wrist cuff. Yes, I am channeling Antoine Merriweather and Blaine Edwards. This snappy little guy was fast and simple to make, and I love it.
The cuff feels pretty secure on my arm with two Dritz sew-on-snaps (size 4/0). I stitched lines at 1/4″ intervals for texture but you can see that they’re a little wonky, which I like.
In completely unrelated news: it’s harder than one might think to take a picture of one’s own wrist.

October is my favorite month, hands down. We get some of our best weather in the fall – cool nights for sleeping and warm days to squeeze in those last few swims. Three of my beloved things: fall clothes, sunny pumpkin patches and signs of Halloween. I’m totally soaking it up right now. This is a Halloween bunting that I made last year. I smiled when I opened our orange & black storage box because I all but forgot making the bunting.
Stella’s pipe cleaner spider guards the bunting. If you get too close he will call you a philistine and give you withering glares.

Have you ever administered a beating with your purse? Or fantasized about it? Yes you have. I am downright impressed by headlines like, “Elderly Woman Beats Up Six Jewel Thieves With Her Purse”. I think my Amy Butler Swing Bag could be just the thing. I could stick cobblestones or stale cinnabun (that’s plural) down in the bottom and twirl it over my head like a stylish combat sling. This bag has two home decor fabric layers plus another muslin layer inside. So sturdy! And very easy to make, though I opted out of the scarf accessory that can be tied in a bow around the handles. Simplicity is my game.
Peekaboo! I’m reversible. Also, I can talk.

I told you I was busting some stash over here. More fast projects! I used Lotta Jansdotter’s potholder pattern from Simple Sewing and threw these babies together. Lotta is lovely. I love Lotta a lotta.

Super duper. I’m busting stash and taking names. I appliqued this shirt for Stella with some Etsuko scraps and fusible web. The font is helvetica bold. She actually got excited when I put it on her, and was proud that I made it. How many times will I be able to get away with this? I think the universe was being nice after the flu shot drama we endured this morning. I had to rassle Little S while the nurse attacked like a ninja assassin. S is for scotch.

Kokka’s View Master fabric is almost more than I can suffer. Honestly. The reels have titles like, “The World of Tomorrow” and “Tomato Aspic Salad”. Hello the ’50s called and they want their aspic back. Aspic for the love of god! Who could forget classic slide slides like, ” Putting Your Best Foot Forward” and “A New Home on Mars”? Side note: savory jelly, manners and inhabitable planets are my top conversation starters.
I needed coasters and I needed to rip into this fabric already. I cut out 5.5″ squares, folded the edges twice (quarter inch folds), and cheers. Bartender, give me a vodka martini and the lady will have the aspic du jour. In a mustache mug. Stat.

It is vital to accessorize when one is almost 4 years old. Charity benefits, clubbing, A-list dinners. One must prepare to be photographed at a moment’s notice. Stella is sporting some new head fashion by mom (don’t confuse her with Stella McCartney). Carrie @ Such Designs majorly hooked me up! She sent over her Twitst-it! T-Shirt Yarn Hairwear Kit. I followed instructions for dying and making my own t-shirt yarn out of my man’s old shirts. My mother helped me roll all of the yarn into little yarn balls. Great balls, mom. Seriously.
Making the accessories was a blast. The hardest part was getting each flower started but still pretty easy. I used hot glue instead of the recommended fabric glue because I like instant gratification. I zazzed the flowers up with some jewels, feathers and a few dabs of Stella’s glitter glue.
Now Mr. PeepThread has some really fancy custom half-shirts. He hasn’t worn any of them yet. He must be saving them for a special occasion.
Thanks again to Carrie for the awesome kit!
Don’t forget to enter the Such Designs giveaway!
